WHAT'S IN MY MAKEUP BAG

while i was in the process of moving apartments, i decided to consolidate all of my 'everyday' makeup into one place so i was never without an essential product. to make things easy, i threw my daily routine into a sturdy plastic bag from a shoe store in barcelona. my new place lacked adequate makeup storage, so i never really changed-up my less-than-desirable "bag" situation until this past december when i was visiting ny/nj/home for christmas and picked up a henri bendel weekender bag ($70). i liked that it would allow me to separate out my face products from my eye products while also providing a small spot for a few lipsticks and my nail polish of the moment for emergency touch-ups.

i happily lug the products listed below with my everywhere i go. they allow for a flawless complexion and several go-to eye looks.

what products do you need to have at-the-ready?

1. skinlogics herbal hydrating mist ($14) - this spray has replaced my mac fix+. i use this to prep my skin for makeup, set my makeup, and as a refresher before i go to bed.
2. garnier skin renew radiance moisture cream ($12.99) - my daily and nightly moisturizer. it absorbs quickly into the skin. i apply this right after the hydrating mist and before my base and foundation.
3. chanel soleil tan de chanel bronzing makeup base ($48) - for days during the winter when i want to give myself a little extra glow, i'll apply this to areas of my face that would be hit by the sun before foundation. i use my sigma f84 angled kabuki, a synthetic brush.
4. lancĂ´me teint miracle foundation in buff 6w ($40) - my mom had purchased this foundation and found the color too light for her complexion, so i took it off her hands. this is a medium coverage foundation that is buildable. most importantly leaves my skin looking like...skin! and not a mask. can't say enough about this.
5. maybelline instant age rewind eraser dark circles treatment concealer in brightener ($9.99) - this has replaced my bobbi brown corrector. while the formula is a little lighter in coverage, the accessibility and price-point make it a very worthy dupe.
6. mac paint pot in soft ochre ($18.50) - this is my everyday dark-lid corrector, eyeshadow base, lazy-day eyeshadow, etc, etc. i go through about one pot a year of this fabulous multi-tasking product.
7. inglot freedom system 10 eye shadow square + eyeshadows ($16 + $6/ea) - i created this neutral palette when i was in new york two years ago. and it's still going strong. by far the silkiest, most pigmented eyeshadows i have ever tried - and they're a total steal! if i had to lose every other eyeshadow palette in my collection, i could survive off this palette alone. i'll have a post on this custom-made palette shortly!
8. urban decay naked palette ($50) - before inglot came into my life, there was the naked palette. i wish there were more lighter shades, as i find even naked is a bit dark as an overall lid color. i barely venture into the darker shades, but still - i keep coming back. my favorites are sin, naked and buck.
9. chanel les 4 ombres in mystic eyes ($59) - i'd be lying if i said every shadow in this palette gets equal attention. one shadow was a dud (the silver...think i just had some bad luck), two are nice, but rarely used, but the brown...beautiful, rich, super-blendable. this is a staple with every smoky-brown eye look i do. i would repurchase this palette for this color alone.
10. nars shimmer eyeshadown in cairo ($24) - this is just a great shadow to have in your collection. it's a rosy brown that is great for crease work, a subtle smokey look, or a light wash.
11. nars cream eyeshadow in corfu ($24) - i was never wowed by this as a base, but i tapped it over a dark brown smokey eye and as in love with the sheen it gave. this elevates any dark look.
12. bobbi brown eyeshadow in taupe ($21) - i fill my eyebrows in with this almost every day. it also makes a great crease color for a natural look with black winged liner.
13. maybelline eye studio lasting drama gel eyeliner in blackest black and brown ($9.99/ea) - no need to drop the big bucks on bobbi brown or mac - these eyeliners are great. they don't fade throughout the day or transfer, and they come with a cute little eyeliner brush that i've come to love.
14. maybelline volum' express the falsies mascara in black drama ($6.99) - there's no telling how many tubes of this i've gone through. the mascara formula and brush make for a winning combination that create volumized, lengthened, separated lashes. if i had to use one and only one mascara for life - this would be it. that said, i do find that i love this mascara a little more when it dries out a bit.
15. l'oreal paris telescopic mascara in carbon black ($7.78) - i like to layer this over the falsies for super-long lashes, or use alone on days when i'm wearing very little eye makeup.
16. benefit they're real! mascara in black ($23) - i may be the only one that never loved-loved this mascara. it was just 'eh' to me for the price, and the brush seemed like a semi-knockoff of givenchy's phenomen'eyes (which i would use religiously if it weren't for its hefty price tag). i still use this if i want some extra separation.
17. clinique bottom lash mascara in black ($10) - don't QUITE get the hype over this. it works well, but not enough to cost more than my everyday mascara. still trying to use this up.
19. nars larger than life long-wear eyeliner in rue bonaparte ($23) - my go-to bottom waterline color. so much prettier and eye-opening that a stark-white liner. i don't find the formula to be extra long-wearing as the name might claim, but i still like it quite a bit.
19. nyc smooth skin bronzing face powder in sunny ($2.99) - i'm not dark enough for my beloved nars casino, so i figured i'd pick up this cheapie for my everyday-winter-bronzing needs. i find it a little orange on my skin, so i use a very, very light hand with it. not mad, considering the price.
20. nars blush in albatross, desire, douceur, sin, taj mahal ($28/ea) - only the best blushes ever - i find myself using douceur (a beautiful, light dusty pink) with a small touch of desire (bright pink overload) or sin (berry with a golden shimmer) during the winter months. taj mahal (intense orange with gold shimmer) is beautiful with a tan. these really pull together any makeup look.
21. dior shimmer star in amber diamond ($45) - flawless as a highlighter, beautiful as an eyeshadow (especially in the inner corner). this product is so finely milled and worth every penny. i'm on my second compact!
22. nars powder foundation in budapest ($45) - i use this to set my foundation AFTER i apply my setting spray during times when i really need my look to last all day, or when i think i might get oily.
