after a far-too-short weekend of tequila tastings, oysters, and dear friends, i'm back to discuss my favorite accessory of all time - hot pink and fuchsia lips!
i can wholeheartedly recommend every one of these beautiful colors. without further ado:
1. nars funny face ($24) - this semi-matte lipstick is described as a "wonderfully fun fuchsia." this shade is a nice, darkened fuchsia with a little bit of blue pearlescence that is mostly apparent in-tube. i find the nars semi-matte formula to be a little drying, but not uncomfortably so.
2. mac girl about town ($15) - ok, i'll be honest, this is probably the last fuchsia color i grab for. mac describes the color as a "bright blue fuchsia," and unfortunately it leans a little too blue on my neutral/warmer skin-tone. what i do love is the forumla, though. mac's amplified cremes offer a great, long-lasting punch of color and are very comfortable on the lips.
3. revlon fuchsia (varies) - if girl about town and gulabi had a baby, this would be it--it is the perfect "neutral" fuchsia! i am so sad that the colorburst line was recently discontinued by revlon. the finish on this is comparable to a mac amplified creme, but was about half the price with drugstore deals and coupons.
4. nars mexican rose ($24) - holy pigmentation! i actually wore this glossy lip pencil on a whim on my first date with my now-boyfriend and i probably couldn't have chosen a better formula. this stuff doesn't let go - and i never find staining to be a bad thing when wearing a bold lip color. the finish is quite glossy, but not too much so. this is a must-have. i can't wait to try more of the velvet gloss lip pencils.
5. mac gulabi ($15) - i'm on my 3rd tube of this lipstick--thanks how much i love it! i wish mac would make this a permanent part of their amplified creme line. gulabi is a less-blue version of girl about town, leaning more neutral-red and the reason i fell in love with fuchsia lips in the first place. sadly, it has only been released with the micky contractor collection back in 2011 and i find myself hunting for overpriced tubes on ebay. i would buy this in bulk if ever it were released again.
6. mac milan mode ($15) - this isn't the brightest/punchiest of lip products, but it makes my lips look heathy! mac describes it as a "sheer deep pink with multidimensional pearl" and it is a lustre finish. i feel like i don't wear this as ofter as some of my other pinks, but i go through it so quickly due to the finish--i am constantly reapplying because the staying power isn't so hot.
7. mac pink pigeon ($15) - pretty much a true hot barbie pink. this lipstick is a little cool-toned for me; it should be easier to pull off in the summer months when i have some color. mac makes the perfect matte formula - it's not drying and lasts on the lips for quite some time.
8. nars shiap ($24) - this may very well the the slightly more expensive, but more accessible version of pink pigeon. (of course, now that i say that, it's not on nars' website for purchase.)
9. revlon sweetheart (varies) - these kissable balm stains are AWESOME. they provide a nice, healthy shine, good color payoff and a minty flavor. the pink is pretty perfect, too. the lasting power, while not quite up to the level of the nars velvet gloss pencils, is still pretty impressive. these are a must-have at the drugstore.
10. mac party parrott ($15) - this coraly-hot pink is definitely a summer go-to. the mac matte formula, as previously mentioned, is comfortable and wears well. i wish there was a litttttttttttle more red in this color, but otherwise, it's pretty perfect.
11. chanel hyde park ($32) - i'm a sucker for anything brightly colored from chanel. the rouge allure lipsticks have a wonderful, moisturizing formula, great color payoff and beautiful packaging. i'm not sure any lip product is worth the $32, but this color from the knightsbridge collection) was unique enough for me to pick up. i find it a little light for everyday wear, so i like to layer it with reds and darker colors.
12. mac viva glam nicki ($15) - much like hyde park, i find this color better for layering - it looks a little too white-pink on me for heavy everyday use. it is really pretty patted gently onto the lips, though--it creates a beautiful coraly pink stain. the satin finish allows for some buildable color.
what are your favorite pinks? are there any good drugstore dupes you can recommend?
